Jonathan Hines, architect - "Architype is delighted to have been involved with this exciting project and to work  with such a committed client. Our approach was to design from first principles a building that is truly sustainable, works at a practical level and enables the Greenshop to demonstrate its philosophy and products."

Energy and Heating

Being very well insulated the building has a low heat requirement. As far as possible solar power is used to heat water for the under floor heating system and for hot taps. Some of the electricity used by computers and office equipment is generated on site by solar photovoltaics. Additional heat is provided by a wood burning boiler fuelled by wood from the management of the site and waste wood from packing cases left over from delivery of stock. A Consolar thermal store is housed in the boiler room and accumulates heat from the solar collectors and log burner boiler and fed to the space heating system.
