Jonathan Hines, architect - "Architype is delighted to have been involved with this exciting project and to work  with such a committed client. Our approach was to design from first principles a building that is truly sustainable, works at a practical level and enables the Greenshop to demonstrate its philosophy and products."

Green and Brown Roofs

To replace habitat lost during construction new wildlife friendly space is created on the roofs of the building. The main south roof is a green roof planted with sedum and two other roofs are made into brown roofs with impoverish soil, stones and logs from the site to make a storm water absorbing wildlife habit that is interesting to observe at all times of the year. One of the brown roofs makes a feature from a large viewing window. The mass of earth on the roof also helps to combat the risk of summer overheating.
