natural paints and eco-store had started to out grow the existing
buildings. The concept for the new Greenshop eco-build was to create an

The construction process was managed using design build approach which allows for interaction between the client, who knew what they wanted, the architects, engineers and contractors.
Jonathan Hines, architect, says: “Architype is delighted to have been involved with this exciting project and to work
with such a committed client. Our approach was to design from first principles a building that is truly sustainable,
works at a practical level and enables the Greenshop to demonstrate its philosophy and products.”

Wood Heating at the Greenshop |
|
Written in Jan 2006 the purpose of this report was to give indicative figures for the heating fuel required for the Green Shops new exhibition and office building. It is intended to heat the building with a combination of a large solar thermal array and a log or pellet burning boiler.
The building is to be built with a high level of thermal efficiency with 250mm of insulation in the cavity walls and 500mm in the roof space.
Consideration is given in the report to the sizing and system requirements and how the different heat sources may interact.
